The modern distillery of Berta of Roccanivo at Casalotto near Mombaruzzo began its work during the harvest 2002, a historic year for this family business threaded with the economic development of ‘Astigiana’ wine. The other points of referral for this family are 1948 founding of the first distillery in Nizza Monferrato) and even earlier, the birth on the 11th of July 1866 of Francesco Berta in Casalotto di Mombaruzzo. The continuing solid family giving base of the Berta family is what has fed the Berta family business and this stability has come through the generations of Berta women. In the nineteen-eighties years the Berta family divided the responsibilities, Gianfranco undertook production, Enrico marketing, whilst Lidia continued packaging the bottles and Paolo continued unperturbed, holding exceptional batches and passing them from barrel to barrel, from vat to vat. These were the years when the clients, invited by Enrico, began to visit the distillery at Nizza Monferrato, consolidating a rapport made more of humanity than of economic convenience.
This is a story of intense years of hard work and continued growth and specialized with an installation of a boiler with discontinuous vapour. Furthermore and original technique for preserving pomace, keeping it fresh and moist in hermetically sealed containers has been developed for the prolongation of the season of work. Its the same story, the story of a family who continuously works for the long term, for the benefit of their descendent, maintaining the quality, but being ready to adapt the means of selling and the product presentation.
