Biondi Santi - Toscana
For at least a century (it was founded in 1840) Biondi Santi has been a symbol of classic Brunello with its intense body, leathery nose, high level of acidity, tannins softened by long ageing, and prodigious longevity. Located just below the village of Montalcino, the vines of the Greppo estate are the products of a selection – in other words, the newest plants are propagated from the oldest. Traditional methods take pride of place in the vinification and ageing (almost four years in large oak casks) processes. Biondi Santi adhere firmly to these principles and categorically reject the use of barriques (which are becoming increasingly common throughout the region), thereby helping to forge a separate identity within the modern Tuscan winemaking scene.
