Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi, Toscana

Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi - Toscana

The Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi took up the winemaking craft during the Middle Ages, more than 700 years ago. With the passage of the centuries, their passion became wisdom, not only because of their ability and commitment, but above all for their love of their land and for the unique spirit of innovation that has always been the hallmark of this Tuscan family.

Passion, commitment and perseverance, are just some of the qualities treasured and handed down along the thirty generations of Frescobaldi. The estate properties comprise some 1100 hectares spread through all of Tuscany. Some of these estates are well known for the superb quality and reputation of their wines, such as Castello di Pomino, Castello di Nipozzano, Castel Giocondo and Tenuta di Castiglioni.

The intertwining of a strong bent towards innovation with elements such as terroir, which encompasses climate, grape variety, environment, and human intervention, is the basis of Frescobaldi’s winemaking philosophy. Early on the company distinguished itself for introducing noble varieties such as Merlot, Pinots, Chardonnay, and for being among the first to utilize steel and oak barrels in winemaking.
